Male Found Shot in Newark's Central Ward

Authorities in Essex County are investigating a shots-fired incident that injured a male victim in Newark Saturday night. 

The incident  happened near the Newark/Irvington border around 8 p.m. 

Police responded to reports of shots fired and found shell casings in the vicinity of 768 South 19th Street. 

When officers canvassed the area, they found a male victim suffering a non-life threatening gunshot wound in his arm near Springfield Avenue and South 20th Street.  

The unidentified male was taken to University Hospital, where medical personnel treated his injury, and he is expected to recover.

Police have not identified the motive for the shooting and the investigation remains active.  

There were no other injuries reported.
