Newark Police officials have launched an investigation into a shooting that injured a male in the city's North Ward during the overnight hours.
According to authorities, police were notified of several rounds of gunfire that erupted in the vicinity of 46 Evergreen Lane just before 12:20 a.m.
When officers arrived, they found the unidentified adult male victim struck by bullets at that location.
Police say EMS transported the victim to University Hospital for treatment for gunshot wounds to his leg and buttocks. The victim's injuries were not immediately reported as life-threatening.
Authorities believe that suspects occupying a light-colored Mustang sped away from the scene towards Elizabeth.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
