Male Found Shot in his Head in Newark's North Ward

Newark city and county law enforcement officials have launched an active investigation following a violent shooting that left a man fighting for his life early Wednesday morning.

According to initial reports, gunfire erupted around 3 a.m. near the intersection of Garside Avenue and Bloomfield Avenue, prompting a swift police response. 

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

Emergency medical services were called to the scene, and the victim was quickly transported to University Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Police secured the area and searched for other possible victims, though no additional injuries were reported. 

The shooting marked the third person shot within 6 hours in the city. 

As of now, no arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
