Police in Newark are trying to ascertain the location of a shooting that injured a male in Newark's North Ward Thursday morning.
Officers responded to reports of an injured person in the area of 55 Carteret Street around 1:05 a.m.
When police arrived at the scene, they located the victim suffering a non-life threatening bullet wound in his foot.
According to preliminary reports, the uncooperative victim initially told police that an armed suspect fired in his direction following a robbery.
Police checked the scene and did not find evidence of a shooting or any shell casings.
The victim said the incident didn't occur where officers found him.
The incident remains under investigation by The Newark Police Department.
