Male Enters Newark’s University Hospital Suffering Bullet Wound

Rutgers University Police contacted Newark authorities when a male entered University Hospital suffering a bullet wound Friday afternoon.

It happened at around 4:20 p.m., where the unidentified victim told police that while in the area of 321 Avon Avenue, gunmen began firing shots that struck him.

Police say the victim was transported by private vehicle to the hospital where doctors treated none-life threatening injuries.

An unidentified person walking on 18th Avenue holding a child managed to escape being struck by bullets but did drop the child during the commotion police said.

The child did not suffer serious injuries.

Officers were able to locate a crime scene on 18th Avenue.

Police are looking into the motive behind the shooting.
