Male Enters Hospital Over an Hour After Being Struck by Bullets in Newark

An observant resident in a section of Newark's West Ward dialed 911 after hearing multiple sounds of gunfire near their home on Tuesday evening. 

It happened around 6:25 p.m. in the 200 block of 14th Avenue, where police said gunfire erupted, sending officers to the scene to investigate. 

When officers arrived, they searched the area, but no crime scene was set up in the neighborhood.

According to police, at approximately 7:30 p.m., officials at University Hospital notified authorities when a male victim suffering gunshot injuries entered the emergency ar seeking care.

Police have not confirmed why the victim took so long to seek medical attention for the wound, but it appeared the injured attempted to care for the wound himself, according to authorities.

After an investigation, police returned to 14th Avenue and South 14th Street and located a crime scene.

The extent of the victim's injuries has not been reported as life-threatening and the investigation remains active and ongoing.
