Paterson

By: Jeff Sommes

Police took a male suspect into custody and charged him with firing a gun in a neighborhood in Paterson Monday afternoon.

At approximately 2 p.m., police were alerted by a ShotSpotter activation that detected about 17 rounds of gunfire in the area of Rosa Parks Boulevard and Putnam Street.

When officers arrived at the scene, they were informed that two black male suspects had fled the area.

Officers tracked down one of the men on River Street, who they believe tossed a handgun while fleeing the scene.

Police canvassing the neighborhood found two guns during their search.

No injuries were reported, and the motive behind the shooting is under investigation.
