Linden Welcomes Its First Female Motorcycle Officer

Linden New Jersey

The Linden Police Department is proud to welcome its first female Motor Officer, Monika Oliveira.

Monika is a seven year veteran of the police department, having recently graduated from the prestigious Northwestern Motor Officer training program.

The Northwestern Motor Officer training program began thirty years ago when a partnership between Harley-Davidson and the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety was forged.

Harley-Davidson, the manufacturer of the police motorcycles, supplies all of the cycles as well as fuel and a full time mechanic to travel the entire county to train America's police officers in safe and effective motor skills specifically designed for police officers.

The most recent course was hosted by the Linden Police Department. It began on April 13th  for potential instructors and on April 20th for operators.

"This was the most difficult training I have ever been a part of, and I would never have made it through such a difficult program without experienced and knowledgeable instructors," said Officer Oliveira.  "I am proud to join the police motor unit and will work hard to further my skills as my street experience grows."

"Monika worked hard every day to earn a tremendous reputation from her instructors," said Lt. Michael Babulski, Motor Unit Commander.

“Our female officers continue to break down barriers and show their worth and expertise in areas that have traditionally been reserved for men”, added Police Chief James Schulhafer.
