Linden Police Officials Confirm Fatal Building Fire

Linden Police and Fire officials are investgiating the cause of a fire that killed a person inside a building in the city on Monday evening.

According to a statement released by police, the victim, Cyril Spinks, 26, was located in a second-floor apartment by Linden Fire Department personnel and later pronounced deceased.

The fire began shortly after 8:00 p.m. on Monday, November 18th. Arriving police and fire units reported the second floor of the building was fully engulfed with heavy smoke and visible flames.

Firefighters from Linden, Elizabeth, Rahway, Roselle Park, and Garwood battled the two-alarm blaze for about 45 minutes before it was extinguished. The fire destroyed the apartments on the second floor of the building.

Officials say a business located on the first floor sustained smoke and water damage.

While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, it is not considered suspicious at this time. Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Maurice Rawlins at (908) 474-8537.
