A Linden Police officer suffered serious injuries Monday morning after a police motorcycle collided with a van while the officer was participating in a funeral procession.
According to information released by Linden Police, the crash occurred shortly before 11 a.m. as the officer was traveling southbound on Roselle Street on a marked police motorcycle.
Police said the motorcycle was involved in a collision with a Ford van that was entering a private driveway.
The officer was transported to University Hospital in Newark with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the van was not injured.
Roselle Street remained closed between Ziegler Avenue and Elizabeth Avenue following the crash, and motorists were advised to avoid the area and use alternate routes.
The Union County Police Traffic Bureau is investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.
