Police responded to a Linden home Saturday for a report of a stolen but instead ended up issuing summonses to the alleged victim.

Police were called to the area of Caroline and Hagel Avenues Saturday at approximately 7:32 a.m. to investigate a parked vehicle with damage.

Upon arrival, police found the 2001 Nissan Pathfinder with body damage to both driver and passenger sides and a flat tire.

Further investigation revealed that the car had been reported stolen earlier that morning from a residence on Sunnyfield Drive in the city.

Officers responded to the address and spoke to the owner, Russell E. Keller, Jr., 52, who after brief questioning, admitted that he drove the vehicle into a fence near the Linden Knights of Columbus building on N. Park Ave., and then parked it at Caroline Ave. and Hagel Ave. before going home and reporting it stolen at 1:26 a.m.

Keller was issued a summons for filing a false police report and also given several motor vehicle summonses.

He has a court appearance notice for municipal court.
