Overnight Gunfire Kills Male Victim in Newark's South Ward

There are fatal injuries reported for the victim of a shooting that occurred in Newark's South Ward overnight.

Police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out in the 200 block of Renner Avenue at approximately 11:25 p.m. where officers arrived at the scene and found a badly injured male suffering gunshot wounds.

EMS rushed the victim to University Hospital where doctors began treating life-threatening injuries. Essex County authorities have confirmed the victim has transitioned.

Police taped off the area and began a search for additional victims, possible suspects, and evidence.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
