Life-Threatening Injuries Reported for Newark Hospital Walk-In Shooting Victim

Police in Newark are investigating a shooting that severely injured a person in Newark's South Ward on Monday morning.

According to a preliminary investigation, at approximately 1:22 a.m., officials at Beth Israel Hospital contacted police when an unidentified male entered the emergency department suffering gunshot injuries.

Police say, they responded to ShotSpotter activations that alerted officers of gunfire near 51 Fabyan Place and in the 20's block of Voorhees Street but no victims were found during their search of the neighborhoods.

As of 2:40 a.m., the victim was listed in critical condition.

The motive for the shooting has not been determined.
