Union County authorities are investigating a shooting that caused severe injuries to a male in Hillside on Sunday night.
According to a preliminary investigation, police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out in the vicinity of 1478 Center Street just before 9:30 p.m.
When units arrived at the scene, they found an unconscious and unresponsive male suffering bullet wounds at that location.
Police say EMS rushed the victim to University Hospital in Newark, where his condition was reported as "grave" shortly before midnight.
According to police, several suspects -occupying a red vehicle- fled the scene immediately after the shooting and is believed to be connected to the shooting.
The motive for the shooting has not been determined.
