Authorities in Essex County are investigating a shooting that critically injured a male victim early this morning in the city.
Police responded to the 100 block of North 5th Street at around 4:20 a.m. after a ShotsSpotter activation picked up several gunshot sounds in the area according to reports.
Officers canvassing the area located a vehicle with a male victim inside unconscious and unresponsive according to reports.
EMS were rushed to the scene but it is not immediately known if the victim ever made it to the hospital.
Police recovered several shell casings in and around the vehicle as they searched for a motive for the shooting.
There were no arrests immediately reportedly.
As of 5 a.m. this morning, we could only confirm life threatening injuries for the victim.
