Late Night Shooting Kills Male on Newark Street; Second Homicide in Less than 24-Hours in Newark

Police in Newark are on the search for a suspect wanted for a shooting that killed a male overnight in Newark.

Details regarding the incident are developing, but according to preliminary findings, police responded to reports of shots fired in the vicinity of 130 Brunswick Street at approximately 9:30 after receiving reports of shots fired.

Several police units arrived at the scene and found the unidentified victim suffering injuries after being shot shortly before officers' arrival.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has confirmed that the victim has died from his injuries.

Authorities are attempting to determine if the shooting incident is related to a person who traveled to Elizabeth and reported to police that he was the victim of a shots fired incident that resulted from a possible carjacking on Brunswick Street in Newark.

Police have not confirmed the connection at this time.

The fatal shooting marks the second Newark homicide in 24-hours and the third in less than 48-hours.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
