Juvenile Struck by Gunfire in Newark's West Ward

Police in Newark are investigating a shooting that injured a juvenile in the city’s West Ward Friday evening. 

Police said the shooting happened before 7:40 p.m. in the 800 block of 18th Avenue. 

According to a preliminary investigation, the boy was found at his home on Melrose suffering a bullet wound in his leg. 

Police set up a crime scene near  the intersection where they found shell casings from the shooting and projectiles from an unreported shots-fired incident from earlier in the day. 

The motive for the attack is under investigation. 

Newark closed the overnight with five-reported- shots fired incidents that connected on three victims with no fatalities.
