Jersey City

Two police officers suffered minor injuries after a pursuit that ended in a crash in a section of Jersey City early Monday morning.

Police say officers responded to reports of shots fire that rang out in the area of 298 Johnston Avenue around 1 a.m.

When officers arrived at the scene, they were told by witnesses that two vehicles pulled up in the area and began to exchange several rounds of gunfire before both cars sped away from the scene.

Police say after they searched the location, no victims were found, but shell casings were recovered from the neighborhood.

A short time later, police attempted to pull over a vehicle they believed was involved in the shooting, but the driver ignored officers' lights and sirens and sped from the scene.

Police say the driver crashed the car near Union Street and Garfield Avenue, where three suspects bailed from the vehicle and led officers on a foot pursuit.

According to police, a 13-year-old suspect was captured, but the other suspects remained at-large as of 4:20 a.m.

The juvenile was treated for head pain, then taken into custody.
