By: Najla Alexander

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said on Sunday, February 19, at approximately 12:11 p.m., the Jersey City Fire Department received reports of smoke at 309 10th Street in Jersey City.

According to Prosecutor Suarez, responding members of the JCFD located a fire in a single-family residence upon arrival.

Upon entry, the first responders found an unresponsive male victim of the fire; authorities say the fire was contained to that residence by the JCFD.

Officials said the victim, a 50-year-old Jersey City resident, was transported to Jersey City Medical Center by Emergency Medical Services.

Prosecutor Suarez said he was transported to the Burn Unit at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston for further treatment.

The victim is currently in critical but stable condition.

The initial investigation by the Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force has determined that the fire does not appear suspicious. However, according to officials, the Origin and Cause of the fire remain under investigation.

The Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force is actively investigating this case with assistance from the Jersey City Fire Department officials said.
