Belleville Police have announced an arrest in connection with a package theft reported earlier this month on DeWitt Avenue.
According to authorities, on December 15, 2025, at approximately 2:12 p.m., a Belleville resident reported that a package had been stolen from their property.
Ring camera footage shows a suspect arriving in a gray Jeep Grand Cherokee and removing a package containing a Graco Pack ’n Play before fleeing the area.
Following an investigation, Belleville Police arrested Joseph Bethune, 35, of Irvington, New Jersey. Bethune has been charged with third-degree package theft under New Jersey statute 2C:20-2B(2)(M).
Police confirmed that the stolen package was recovered and returned to the victim.
Package Theft Prevention Tips
With online shopping and home deliveries on the rise, Belleville Police encourage residents to take the following precautions to help prevent package theft:
• Track deliveries and retrieve packages as soon as possible after arrival.
• Request signature confirmation for high-value items when available.
• Provide delivery instructions to place packages in less visible or secured locations.
• Use alternative delivery locations such as a trusted neighbor, workplace, or secure package locker.
• Install motion-activated lighting or security cameras around entry points.
• Pause deliveries or place holds when away for extended periods.
• Report any suspicious activity to Belleville Police immediately.
The investigation remains active, and residents are encouraged to remain vigilant.
