Irvington Township Firefighters Rescue Two From Burning Building

Irvington Township

The Honorable Mayor Tony Vauss lauded firefighters in Irvington Township for their heroic rescue of two victims trapped inside a burning building late Saturday night.

According to Mayor Vauss fire officials, firefighters responded to reports of a fire at 11 Ellis Avenue around 10:10 p.m.

Officials say crews arrived and found heavy flames shooting from the second floor and rapidly extending to the third level.

As firefighters began to stretch several lines and beat down flames, they learned that two occupants were trapped inside the two-and-a-half-story siding framed house.

The pair were rescued from the home then handed over to EMS. Mayor Vauss said they were transported to an area hospital after some non-life threatening smoke inhalation.

Firefighters were able to stop the blaze from extending to neighboring homes and no other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, according to Mayor Vauss.
