Newark Police reporting that members of the Fugitive Apprehension Team have arrested Mr. Kahleel D. Trent, 35, of Irvington, and Mr. David B. Canadas, 37, of East Orange, for a double-shooting that occurred on Saturday, July 1st.
According to Police, at approximately 2:38 p.m., police responded to University Hospital to a call of two males arriving with gunshot wounds.
Hospital officials treated both men for non-life threatening injuries then released after suffering gunshot wounds in the 700-block of Martin Luther King Boulevard.
Major Crimes detectives developed sufficient evidence to identify Kahleel D. Trent and David B. Canadas as suspects in this incident and obtained a warrant for each suspect’s arrest.
Detectives arrested both men yesterday without incident then charged them with two counts each of Criminal Attempt of Murder, Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose and Cons piracy to Commit Murder, as well as Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.
Canadas is also charged with Receiving Stolen Property for possession of a stolen cell phone.
These charges are merely accusations. Each suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
