Authorities in Elizabeth are investigating two separate shootings that caused injuries in the city this evening.
The most serious of the two incidents occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m. on the 800 block of Monroe Avenue where reports of shots fired sent police to the scene where officers found a victim struck in the head by gunfire.
The extent of the victim's injuries are unknown at this time.
In an earlier shooting incident, police were called to Trinitas Hospital after a male victim walked into the emergency department suffering a gunshot wound.
The victim told police that he was shot on the 500 block of East Jersey Street shortly before arriving to the hospital.
The 25-year-old victim's injuries were not reported as life threatening.
The motive for both shootings are under investigation.
UPDATE: The shooting reportedly involves a police officer's family member. No injuries to the officer or the relative.
