There were injuries reported in an early morning shooting that occurred in a section of Newark's West Ward Saturday morning.
In the latest of about six shooting incidents that killed one person and injured two others in a 24-hour time span, police responded to a Shotspotter activation that alerted officers of gunfire in the vicinity of 481 South 18th Street at approximately 1:15 a.m.
Units arrived at the scene and found an unidentified victim suffering a bullet wound in their torso, according to police.
The conscious and alert victim was transported to University Hospital for treatment and remained in serious but stable condition.
Police say the motive for the shooting remains under investigation. No arrests have been reported.
