Families, runners, survivors and community groups will gather at Brookdale Park in Bloomfield next month for a new 5K aimed at supporting breast cancer research.
According to information sent by the Cure Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF), the nonprofit organization will host its inaugural Hope Hustle 5K on Saturday, October 3, as Breast Cancer Awareness Month gets underway.
The event is designed for participants of varying ages and abilities, including experienced runners, casual walkers, families and groups participating in honor or memory of someone affected by breast cancer.
Organizers said proceeds from registration will support scientific research funded through the Cure Breast Cancer Foundation.
“The Hope Hustle 5K is all about community, connection and purpose,” CBCF Executive Director Laela Perkins said, adding that organizers are encouraging families, businesses, fitness organizations and community groups to form teams and participate together.
The 5K will follow an inner-loop course through Brookdale Park, passing several areas of the Essex County park, including the dog park, archery field, soccer fields and Brookdale Stadium. The finish line celebration will be held near the Brookdale Park Playground.
The race is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. at Brookdale Park, located at 473 Watchung Avenue in Bloomfield.
Registration costs $35 for adults and $15 for children ages 6 through 12. Children 5 and younger can participate at no charge. Team and group registration options are also available.
Registration will remain open through the day of the event.
