Hunter Injured in Sussex County Shooting Incident

Sussex County authorities are investigating a shooting incident that occurred in a wooded area of Hampton Township on Friday evening.

The incident, reported to be hunting-related, happened around 5:49 p.m. on Hampton Lane.AdPolice, firefighters, and rescue teams were dispatched after receiving reports of an injured hunter.

Due to snowy conditions and challenging terrain, responders utilized ATVs to reach the location. Upon arrival, they found the hunter with gunshot wounds to his leg and chest.

The individual was immediately transported to Newton Hospital; however, the severity of his injuries was not immediately known.

As the investigation unfolds, authorities are considering the possibility of self-inflicted wounds. The Sussex County Prosecutor's Office, the NJ Fish and Wildlife Agency, and a Major Crimes unit have been called to assist in this active investigation.

This incident has heightened concerns in the local hunting community, prompting a thorough examination of the circumstances leading to the hunter's injuries.

No other injuries were reported in connection with this incident.
