Authorities in Ocean County announced that human remains discovered in Plumsted Township on April 9 have been positively identified as that of Joseph Izquierdo, 37, of Egg Harbor.
According to Plumsted Township Police, on April 9, the department received a 911 call relative to a report of human remains located in a wooded area approximately one-quarter mile from Route 528.
Police say responding officers found the remains to be in the advanced stages of decomposition.
On May 14, the results of an examination of the human remains by the New Jersey State Police Forensic Anthropology Unit and a Forensic Odontologist were forwarded to the Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office.
According to authorities, on May 24, the results were reviewed by the Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office, and the human remains were positively identified as that of Mr. Izquierdo.
The cause and manner of death still remain under investigation.
