Police in Newark's Ironbound section are looking into the circumstances behind a shooting that injured a male victim Sunday morning.
According to police, at approximately 12:45 a.m., officials at University Hospital contacted Newark {Police when the victim entered the emergency room suffering gunshot wounds.
Police arrived and were told by the victim that gunfire erupted in the vicinity of 16 Riverview Place and struck him in the back.
Newark Ironbound officers canvassed the Riverview Place location and found shell casings and blood evidence.
Doctors treated the victim's back injury and listed him in stable condition.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
