Hit-and-Run Driver Leaves Female Pedestrian Severely Injured in Newark's North Ward

A woman is fighting for her life after being struck by a hit-and-run driver late Sunday night in Newark's North Ward.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office is actively investigating the incident, which occurred at approximately 8:22 p.m.

According to preliminary information, authorities responded swiftly to the scene following reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle at the intersection of 3rd Avenue and McCarter Highway.

Upon arrival, they discovered a woman who had suffered a serious head injury after being run over by a car.

The victim was immediately transported to University Hospital, where she remains in critical condition.  

According to preliminary information, the driver responsible for the incident fled the scene in a dark-colored sedan, traveling northbound on NJ-21.

Law enforcement is urging anyone with information about this hit-and-run to come forward and assist with their ongoing investigation.

As of now, no arrests have been made.
