A 28-year-old woman was rescued Tuesday after becoming stuck in a patch of thick, quicksand-like mud while hiking with her father and their dog at South Mountain Reservation, officials said.

According to the Millburn Police Department, the woman became trapped along a riverbank inside the reservation.

Police and fire crews responded and used long boards to carefully distribute their weight across the unstable ground before reaching the hiker.

Once rescued, the Millburn First Aid Squad evaluated the woman at the scene for possible hypothermia.

Authorities said she was not injured.

The dog and her father were not harmed during the incident.
