High-Speed Chase Through Linden Ends in Serious Crash in Elizabeth

Linden Elizabeth

A Perth Amboy man is in critical condition after he led police on a chase that began in Linden and ended after crashing in Elizabeth.

Linden officers on patrol just before 1 a.m. in the area of E. St. George Avenue observed a 2007 BMW traveling east at a high rate of speed nearly sideswiping their patrol car.

The officers caught up to the vehicle and attempted to pull it over activating their lights and sirens at E. St. George Avenue and N. Park Avenue.

The driver of the BMW applied his brakes several times as if he was going to pull over but continued to travel into the City of Elizabeth.

As the BMW approached Elmora Avenue it struck a snow bank and spun around in the intersection striking an oncoming vehicle head-on.

The driver and lone occupant of the BMW, identified as a 29-year-old Perth Amboy man, was unresponsive and taken to University Hospital in critical condition, after being treated by ambulance and medic personnel.

The driver of the other car, a 30-year-old Roselle man, complained of leg and hip pain.

The accident investigation was turned over to the Elizabeth Police Department.

The criminal investigation is ongoing and charges are expected to be filed.
