A morning head-on crash on County Route 530 sent the drivers to the hospital, according to police.
Police were called to the westbound side of County Route 530 -between Congasia Road and America's Keswick - shortly after 9 a.m., for a report of a crash.
Upon arrival, police found a 2015 Hyundai Elantra was traveling westbound when the vehicle crossed over to the eastbound lane where struck a 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe head-on.
The driver of the Elantra was identified as Alma Brekke, 79, of Whiting.
The driver of the Santa Fe was identified as Joseph Dufault, 78, also of Whiting.
Both drivers were flown to Jersey Shore University Hospital in Neptune by MONOC-1 and NJSP Southstar-1 helicopters in unknown condition.
The crash remains under investigation.
