A 21-year-old Guttenberg resident was arrested following a knife fight reported near Bergenline Avenue and 68th Street on August 4, according to a statement released by the Guttenberg Police Department.
Officers and detectives responded to the scene around 3:36 p.m. and took Danilo J. Martinez-Lopez into custody.
He was charged with multiple offenses, including two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of simple assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, terroristic threats, hindering apprehension, and disorderly conduct.
During processing, police discovered that Martinez-Lopez also had an active warrant from the West New York Municipal Court.
He was later lodged in the Hudson County Correctional Center. Authorities noted the investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be filed.
Chief Frank Pelaez commended the swift actions of responding officers. “This type of violence has no place in our community,” he said. “We will continue to pursue violent offenders to ensure the safety of Guttenberg residents.”
