Authorities in Newark are investigating a shooting that left one person injured in the city’s Central Ward on Wednesday evening.
According to a statement released by Newark Police officials, the investigation began around 9:55 p.m. when officials at University Hospital alerted law enforcement after a gunshot victim entered the emergency room seeking treatment.
Detectives responded to the hospital and determined that the individual had been shot near 190 Muhammad Ali Avenue before they arrived at the medical center.
While canvassing the area, police discovered a vehicle that had also been struck by gunfire.
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and no arrests have been reported as of Thursday morning.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not released the identity or condition of the victim.
