Gunshot Victim Falls from Downtown Newark Bridge

Police officials are investigating an unusual incident that had a gunshot victim fall from a bridge in downtown Newark on Sunday afternoon.

According to Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose, it happened at approximately 4:10 p.m., when police received reports of a bleeding man under the McCarter Highway and Edison Place bridge.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found that a man fell from an overpass in the area, according to Director Ambrose.

Police say the man was transported to University Hospital for treatment, where it was further determined that the victim had recently been shot.

According to officials, the unidentified man is in stable condition and the incident remains under investigation.

It is not immediately clear where the victim was shot or why he was on the bridge at this time.
