Police in Newark are investigating a shooting that injured a male victim in the city's South Ward Tuesday night.
According to police, a ShotSpotter activation alerted officer of about a dozen rounds of gunfire that rang out in the vicinity of Treacy and Avon avenues around 9 p.m.
When units arrived at the scene, they found multiple shell casings on the ground, but after searched the area, no victims were located.
Police say a short time later, officials at Beth Israel Hospital notified police of a gunshot victim suffering a bullet wound in his mouth.
Authorities said the victim was placed under arrest after an investigation indicated that the bullet-riddled vehicle that dropped him off was reported stolen out of Elizabeth.
Newark Police will handle the investigation.
