Gunmen Spray Newark Ironbound Housing Development with Bullets

Newark

Police in Newark's East Ward are attempting to piece together the circumstances and motive around a shooting that occurred at a housing development late Tuesday night.

According to preliminary reports, residents at Pennington Court said they called police when they heard about a dozen loud popping noises then a car speed away from the scene just before at around 10:30 p.m.

Units arrived at the scene and taped off the area after finding shell casings at the complex, according to reports.

Officers investigating the scene found a car lost control on Chestnut and Jefferson streets and slammed into several vehicles at the CVS, which is a close distance from the Pennington Court shooting scene.

Authorities confirmed one person suffering a bullet wound in the 1000 block of Broad Street but have not confirmed if the victim had anything to do with the Pennington Court shooting scene.

Authorities have not confirmed fatal injuries at this time.
