Gunmen Exchanged Gunfire Strikes Woman in the Back in Newark

A crime scene established in a neighborhood in Newark's Central Ward had police and detectives on the scene gathering more than a Two dozen shell casings.

The search is on for several suspects who arrived in a Newark Central Ward community and began to fire shots at each other.

According to preliminary reports, multiple blasts of gunfire erupted in the 50's block of Irvine Turner Boulevard sending police to the scene where upon their arrival, officers found a female victim suffering apparent gunshot injuries.

At least one other person suffered a severe leg injury after falling to the ground in an attempt to run from the scene.

EMS transported both victims the short distance to University Hospital where their injuries were not reported as life threatening as of 3:30 a.m.

The motive for the shooting is under investigation by the Newark Police Department.

There were no arrests reported.
