Police in Newark are searching for a suspect who fired multiple gunshots in a North Ward neighborhood Thursday afternoon, causing panic among residents around 3:55 p.m.

According to reports, a Newark Police special unit officer witnessed the suspect open fire near 895 Franklin Avenue.
The officer immediately alerted headquarters and began pursuing the fleeing gunman through the community.
As the officer gave chase, backup units from Newark Police and the Essex County Sheriff's Office responded to the area. Several residents were seen running for cover as the gunfire rang out, though no injuries were reported.
Despite efforts to apprehend him, the suspect managed to evade capture and remains at large.
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact Newark Police.
