There is an active investigation underway into a shooting that injured a male in Newark's upper West Ward Sunday morning.
According to police, just after midnight, gunfire rang out in the vicinity of 69 Valley Street in Newark's Vailsburg section.
Police officers arrived at the scene and found evidence that a shooting occurred and a male suffering gunshot wounds at that location.
Police say the suspect reportedly approached the victim then fired about three rounds at him before running away from the scene.
The unidentified male victim was transported to University Hospital for treatment while police searched the area for evidence and additional victims.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
No arrests have been reported.
