Gunfire Strikes Woman in Newark

Police in Newark are on the search for a suspect who fired rounds in a neighborhood in Newark that struck a woman on Wednesday night.

According to police, gunfire rang out in the just before 11:50 p.m. in the 800 block of South 18th Street where police were alerted and responded.

Police units arrived at the scene and secured the area after locating a woman suffering a gunshot wound at that location.

While police searched for a possible suspect and evidence, EMS transported the woman to University Hospital suffering a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the arm according to police.

Detectives checked the vicinity of Springfield Avenue and South 18th Street for the original shooting scene.

The motive for the incident has not been released.
