Jersey City Police are investigating an overnight double shooting that sent two teenagers to the hospital injured.
Multiple rounds of gunfire erupted outside a day care center on Ocean Avenue and Wegman Avenue at around 2:30 a.m. sending several police units to the scene where they located two male victims suffering gunshot wounds at that location. A police crime scene extended up to Bidwell Avenue.
One of the victims is reported to be 13-years-old, was struck in the back while the other victim, 15-years-old was hit in the ankle.
Both victims were rushed to Jersey City Medical Center where the 15-year-old was treated and released. The 13-year-old underwent surgery and remains in the hospital in serious condition according to authorities.
Police taped off an area around the entrance of the preschool where they marked more than a half-dozen shell casings.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
There have been four people injured by gunfire in a 24-hour span in Jersey City.
There were no arrests made.
