Gunfire Strikes One Victim in Newark’s South Ward

Newark Police are looking into the motive behind an early morning shooting that injured a person in the city’s South Ward Sunday morning. 

Police say at approximately 3:40 a.m., they responded to the vicinity of 340 Lyons Avenue after gunfire erupted in the South Ward community. 

Upon arrival, police found shell casings then followed a blood trail where they gained entry into a building where they found a pool of blood but no victims. 

At approximately 3:45 a.m., officials at University Hospital notified police that a gunshot victim arrived in the emergency room. 

The extent of the victim's injuries could not immediately be confirmed. 

Police reported no arrests in the incident.
