An investigation is underway into a shooting that left a teenage boy injured in Newark overnight.
Police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out in the teens block Wolcott Terrace shortly before 12:30 a.m. where officers arrived to the scene to find a male victim struck by gunfire at that location.
The boy (reported to 13-years-old) was rushed to Beth Israel Hospital suffering a gunshot wound to the shoulder. He was later transferred to University Hospital where he was expected to survive.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the boy was inside his residence when a bullet ripped through the wall, striking him in the shoulder.
It is not immediately known who fired the gun or if the boy was the intended target.
An investigation is underway by the Newark Police Department.
