Gunfire in Newark's North Ward Hospitalizes Man

Police in Newark are investigating a shooting that sent a man to the hospital late last night in the city.

Reports of shots fired sent police to the 90's block Highland Avenue shortly before 10 p.m where officers arrived to find evidence that a shooting had occurred but no victims.

Area hospitals were advised to stay on the look out for a possible victim injured by gunfire arriving at the hospital.

Officials at the University Hospital immediately contacted authorities when a seriously injured male victim was dropped off at the hospital by private vehicle suffering apparent gunshot wounds.

The man reportedly underwent surgery at the hospital and was reported to be in critical condition as of 4 a.m. this morning.

Captain Derek Glenn a spokesperson for the Newark Police Department said that the investigation is in it's early stages into the shooting of the 24-year-old male and is being handles by the department's Cease Fire Shooting Response Team.

There were no arrests made Captain Glenn said.
