Gunfire Hospitalizes Man in Newark

An early afternoon shooting in Newark sent a man to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries today. 

Multiple rounds of gunfire rang out in the 100 block of Avon Ave. at around 1:30 p.m. sending police to the scene where they located a male victim suffering injury from gunfire. 

The man was transported to University Hospital where he is expected to survive his graze injury. 

In an unrelated incident, police in the city's South Ward were heavily engaged in multiple shooting reports that began at around 9:45 p.m. in the areas of Avon Ave., Jeliff Ave., Sherman Ave., Ridgewood Ave., and Poinier Street. Evidence of gunfire was located but there were no reports of injuries. 

Shortly after 11 p.m. up in the city's West Ward, police responded to shots fired reports in the 60's block of Eastern Parkway where bullets struck a house in the area. 

Police recovered a weapon at the scene. 

There were no injuries reported.
