A shooting incident close to the Veteran's Administration Hospital has police in Essex County investigating.
According to police, the shots fired incident happened around 12:25 a.m. near 23 Abbotsford Avenue Newark.
Officers responded to reports of shots fired, then arrived and requested major crimes after locating shell casings.
Officials said because of the distance between the shooting scene and the medical center, the facility was not in danger.
Police say the suspect fled the scene and remains at large.
