Authorities in Newark are actively investigating a shots-fired incident that rocked a South Ward neighborhood late Sunday night.
According to police, the city’s ShotSpotter detection system alerted officers to approximately 16 rounds of gunfire just before 9:50 p.m. near the intersection of Bergen Street and Madison Avenue.
When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered multiple shell casings scattered across the area.
While no victims were located after an initial canvas of the community, officers did find a vehicle riddled with bullet holes.
The car was also leaking gasoline, prompting an immediate safety response from emergency personnel.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The suspect reportedly fled the area and remains at large as of Monday morning.
The Newark Police Department is continuing its investigation and is urging anyone with information to come forward.
