Police closed off Union Street in the vicinity of Ferry Street for the investigation after gunfire erupted in the area overnight.
Officers responded to the Ironbound community at around 1:30 a.m. after several rounds of gunfire rang out in the area.
According to preliminary reports, one person was transported to University Hospital in an unknown condition.
Authorities believe that a dark colored vehicle pulled up in the area and opened fire then sped away.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
