A male suspect fled the shooting scene in a section of Newark's Central Ward Wednesday evening.
Police said gunfire rang out in the vicinity of 56 Jones Street around 5:30 p.m.
Officers responding to the ShotSpotter activation in the area arrived and found multiple shell casings, but no victims were found after police canvassed the scene.
Police taped off a section of the area to collect evidence, but the suspect remains at large.
The Newark Police Department will investigate the incident.
